Engine Stands
C15/C18 Long Block Stand
The long block configuration refers to the engine block mounted with the heads, cam shaft, crank shaft, and pistons. Previously these blocks were wrapped and strapped to plastic pallets with a piece of chip board between. Besides the wood board being a potential source of contamination, the plastic pallets overtime cracked due to fatigue loading scenario from the strapping.
Working with the engine techs, material handlers, machinists and the welders a bracket was designed to mount to the front and rear face of the engine block such that the block can rest on a high density polyethene board and mount firmly to the stand.
This stand is made for use within the facility, it was further stamped by a P. Eng. approximately 50 of these have been produced for the facility. They are faster to laod then the plastic pallets, more robust, and easier to handle using the forklift.
C175 Short Block Stand
The short block configuration refers to the engine block with only the engine block, crank shaft, cam shaft, and pistons.
This project was dropped on a Thursday at 3:30 pm by the manager who anticipated shipping it the following Tuesday.
Following some measurements and some preliminary CAD, material quotes were requested on rush the same day. Material purchases were approved on the Friday with an expectation of material landing on Tuesday. The manager was informed appropriately and all other work that could be done prior to receiving the material was performed under supervision on the Monday. The stand was completed Wednesday and the engine was loaded and shipped not long after.
The engine would be shipped to Toromont's Point Claire location and a second stand would be constructed for internal use.
3512 Short Block Stand
Following the production of the c175 stand, the manager requested a stand be designed for the 3512 short block with no apparent rush.
